If you want your business to be successful and your staff to be happy and healthy, then safety needs to be a priority in the workplace.

“Safe working environments are critical for good business in Australia,” said Safe Work Australia Chair Ann Sherry in a October 1 statement.

That’s why Safe Work Australia Month has been launched, to raise awareness about health and safety and work.

The theme of this year’s event is “Safety is a Frame of Mind. Get the Picture”.

Ms Sherry explained that Safe Work Australia would like people to “think about why they want to come home from work safely” and take steps to ensure this happens.

There are many health and safety risks associated with working in the manufacturing industry.

The most recent facts and figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) demonstrate that for young workers – those aged between 15 and 24 years old – it is much more dangerous than any other sector in the country.

This is demonstrated by the fact that the manufacturing industry has an injury rate that is 44 per cent higher than Australia’s other sectors for people in this age group.

So, if your business is operating in the manufacturing industry, you should definitely get involved in Safe Work Australia Month.

If you want to set a good example for your staff, you may want to register to become a Safety Ambassador. This is easy to do – just complete the form on Safe Work Australia’s website and you’re ready to start promoting health and safety at work!

You can do this by organising safety-focussed events throughout October, or simply encouraging everyone in your business to put health and safety first.

In addition to this, you may want to consider your manufacturing insurance options this month, in case an accident does occur at work.

MGA Insurance Brokers can help you find the small business insurance that best suits your company’s needs.
