A Giant Success: 2025 Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition

We’re proud to support events that bring communities together — and the 2025 Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition was no exception. Full of fun, friendly rivalry, and some truly extraordinary produce, this year’s event once again proved why it remains a highlight on the regional calendar.

Celebrating a Big Tradition

It’s been eight years since MGA Insurance Group introduced a special prize for the grower of the heaviest pumpkin — a tradition that continues to delight and inspire. The competition has grown to attract green thumbs from across the country, from seasoned growers to first-time participants, each with a passion for cultivating something spectacular.

We still remember Dale Oliver’s impressive 390kg pumpkin in 2011 — a record that, to this day, has yet to be beaten.

Congratulations to the 2025 Winners

This year’s competition saw another round of impressive entries and well-deserved recognition:

Pumpkin Results
🥇 1st – Janet Blacksell – 243kg
🥈 2nd – Janet Blacksell – 86.6kg
🥉 3rd – Matt Fry – 82.4kg

Sunflower Results
🥇 1st – Banjo Myers – 1402mm
🥈 2nd – Kevin Myers – 1385mm
🥉 3rd – Matt Fry – 1295mm

Well done to all participants and organisers for making this event such a great success.

Events like the Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition remind us of the value of regional connection, shared effort, and a bit of healthy competition.
